Eminem Apologizes to Mom in Emotional Mother’s Day Music Video

eminem-mom-headlights-videoGrab a tissue. Eminem dropped a touching music video on Mother’s Day to apologize to his mom, Debbie Mathers, for his hateful lyrics about her sprinkled throughout his past songs.

The video for “Headlights” is told in first-person via the eyes of Debbie Mathers. You’ll see security guards refuse to let her contact Eminem at his home. You’ll see her turn to drugs and alcohol to cope. You’ll see her look at old photos of Eminem a.k.a Marshall Mathers. But then, you’ll see the 41-year-old rapper forgive her — with a hug and letter.

In one verse, Eminem even says his mom is “still beautiful” despite their fights:

I went in headfirst / Never thinking about who what I said hurt, in what verse / My mom probably got it the worst / The brunt of it, but as stubborn as we are / Did I take it too far? / “Cleaning Out My Closet” and all them other songs / But regardless I don’t hate you ’cause, Ma, / You’re still beautiful to me, ’cause you’re my mom

Fun’s Nate Ruess lends his vocals on “Headlights.” Filmmaker Spike Lee and Eminem shot the emotional video in Detroit, where Eminem and Debbie’s tumultuous relationship began.

“It’s heartfelt — there’s some pain in it, but that’s life,” Lee said in a teaser.
